About
Psychopomp (ψυχοπομπός): from Greek psyche (soul) and pompos (guide). One who conducts souls to the other world after death. Go-betweens which link the ego and the unconscious, psychopomps may sometimes take the form of helpful beasts.
PSYCHOPOMP LIT collects travelogues of junctions, turning points, and thresholds. We celebrate the literary kleptomaniac, grave digger and conspiracy theorist, anyone who writes and thinks against the existing social order. We are interested in glitches, shadows, deconstructed epiphanies, reluctant bathos, and the radically humane. Let our mutable bodies initiate interference.
Psychopomp Lit is a literary magazine published online. It was founded in spring 2024 by students of the CUNY Graduate Center. We are proud to receive support from the CUNY GC Doctoral and Graduate Students Council.
Submissions
Poetry
We are biased towards vastness. We acknowledge the agitator, the comic healer, the mind in transit. Authors we love include Ariana Reines, Ishion Hutchinson, John Keene and Phoebe Giannisi. Please submit up to five poems.
Fiction
Accepting short stories or novel excerpts under 10,000 words. We’re looking for writing with ‘skin in the game’, earned humor, deadly seriousness, and words we could have never expected.
Nonfiction
Work which breaks beyond historically established genres, academic disciplines, and contemporary stylistic conventions. We especially welcome avant-garde theory, labyrinthine auto-criticism, epistolary communications, modern sickroom and dream journals, and collated notes.
